Inbound marketing most often refers to activities which attract customers to visit a particular website. These techniques include using blogs, SEO, social media and other marketing forms. By comparison, outbound marketing involves such marketing methods as placing TV advertisements, telemarketing and other traditional forms of marketing.
Another difference between inbound and outbound marketing is that inbound marketers work for their customers. They accomplish this by providing information to the customers (in the form of blogs and other information-injected content). In this way, inbound marketing requires significant thought and effort; whereas outbound marketing is more like fishing – you throw enough lures out hoping to catch a bite.
The methodology behind inbound marketing makes it possible to attract customers on more than one level simultaneously. Therefore, inbound marketing requires a certain level of commitment to ensure that their efforts lead to increased sales opportunities.
