Welcome to SEO Advantage’s Trivia feature Friday, where we discuss, dissect and comment on the internet and marketing, and how the two intertwine.
Which Google update started the crackdown on keyword stuffing?
- A. Florida
- B. Georgia
- C. Texas
(See answer below)
During the infancy of the internet, copywriters and web marketers were known to do anything to have their websites noticed by the public. This included stuffing as many keywords into their copy as possible – even if it didn’t make sense. The result of this left most web content messy, duplicated and spammy.
By 2003, infuriated webmasters who were trying to ensure their products were noticed as well reached a breaking point because inferior content was still being ranked. To combat these marketing schemes, Google released an integral algorithm change and in a moment launched the SEO industry.
The Google “Florida” update worked to stop copywriters and marketers from stuffing keywords needlessly into their content and ensured that only the best web content received the highest search rankings. This algorithm release also led to the creation of internet marketing firms like SEO Advantage who could work to help websites learn the correct ways to receive higher search rankings.
